Nick Cannon, via his Ncredible Entertainment production shingle, is throwing his weight behind a new series titled “The Drop” (aka “K Pop High”), which will likely end up on the Nickelodeon network.
The project is described as a half-hour musical comedy about the drama of high school, set at a diplomatic boarding school that caters to kids from all over the world. The series will follow 3 girls who don’t know each other upon their arrival at the school, but soon discover that they share a sensibility for the K Pop vibe – K Pop being “Korean Pop” a musical genre that originated in South Korea, and whose roots can be traced back decades.
Today, think South Korean singer-songwriter and record producer Psy’s global hit “Gangnam Style.”
Cannon will co-produce the DHX Media project alongside Tommy Lynch, Steve DeNure, Tracey Jardine, Jim Corston.
No casting announcements yet, but a December 2014 to mid-march 2015 production date is eyed.
Founded by Nick Cannon in September 2009, NCredible Entertainment currently has the “Teen Nick Top 10” which is a music video countdown show wrapping it’s 3rd successful season; “React To That” wrapping its initial 13 episode order on Nickelodeon; “Wild’n Out” airing its 6th Season on MTV2 (also scoring the highest ratings in network history); “Drumline 2” which just aired on VH-1 and the 6th installment of the Nickelodeon HALO Awards will air live from NYC this month.
In development, Oxygen recently announced “The Assistants,” which NCredible is producing, along with several other unscripted projects in various stages of development.
